” But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:15 NKJV
The most common sin, among those who claim to be believers, is unforgiveness. It is rampant in the modern church. Many of our physical and emotional health problems stem from this poison. In the scripture above, Father makes clear His stance on unforgiveness. We would do well to heed His admonition. The person who will not forgive is opening the door to many troubles in this life.
The person or persons who have perpetrated harm upon us will be held accountable for their actions. Father sees all and is absolutely just. Our duty is to forgive. This is not an option. To forgive others is for OUR benefit and OUR blessing. Father has forgiven me through Christ’s sacrifice, I now forgive others.
There are two categories of forgiveness. You must forgive yourself and you must forgive those who have wronged you.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NKJV
If The Most High God forgives you of your sins, then you must forgive yourself. In addition to demonic deception, pride is the real motive behind our failure to forgive ourselves. We esteem ourselves as better than we really are. The truth is, we are all fallen and Christ alone can supply righteousness. We must adopt Father’s view of ourselves.
To forgive others, simply voice out loud to Father, ” God I forgive ( fill in the blank ). ” Your emotions may not agree with your declaration but your will is stronger. If the Holy Spirit prompts you, you may need to make amends with the person who hurt you. Make very sure the Lord is leading you to do this. In most cases it is not necessary.
Be very thorough in your inventory of forgiving others. Leave no one out. Ask The Holy Spirit to bring to remembrance anyone you may hold in unforgiveness. After forgiving all, it may be necessary to go through a spiritual cleansing. Unclean spirits may have attached themselves in our season of bitterness. Once you have forgiven others, these spirits no longer have legal right to harass you.
Walk in forgiveness. We forgive others because Abba first forgave us.
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let us each esteem others better than himself. Philippians 2:3 NKJV
