LETTER XVIII

Greetings in The Name of Jesus Christ, The Savior of the world,

In our last few letters, we have addressed the effects of the born again experience on the spirit and the soul. In today’s letter, we will briefly look at salvation and it’s impact on the body.

It may come as a surprise to those christians, born and raised in Western culture, that there is any impact of salvation on the body. In our modern way of thinking, we view the human as separate parts; spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and relational. Although The Bible recognizes the three parts of man, spirit, soul, and body, The Word of God sees them as interrelated. The Holy Scriptures view the spirit of man as preeminent over the other two portions. Problems and successes in the spirit, eventually manifest in the soul and body.

If you speak with a hundred christians as to their opinion on physical healing, you will get a hundred opinions. For those who have been reading this blog, the only opinion we value and hold to is The Bible’s viewpoint on the subject. Remember our third foundational truth? If you need clarity on any subject in this life, look at the earthly life of Christ.

The scriptures are full of examples of the inter relationship between spirit and body. Human history gives evidence to miraculous bodily healings at the time of salvation and in the subsequent days afterwards. The positive effects of salvation on the body are not always miraculous or instantaneous. We can use the example of a drug addict or alcoholic who is born again. His spiritual deliverance from addiction most often leads to improved physical health. After the new spiritual birth, an obedient servant of Christ will refrain from gluttony and will physically discipline his body. This obedience to God’s plan for man results in better health.

The following scriptures are given to help us see the connection between spirit and body. These are just a few of the passages concerning this subject.

and said, ” If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you. Exodus 15:26 NKJV

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalms 103:2-5 NKJV

For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgement to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 1 Corinthians 11: 29-30 NKJV

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5;14-15 NKJV

In a future series of blogs, we cover in detail, the biblical view on physical healing and health.

Jesus said to him, ” Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed, Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. ” John 20:29 NKJV
