LETTER XIII

Greetings in The Name of Jesus Christ, The Son of Man,

In the letters, up to this point, we have laid foundational material concerning a proper world view, The Word of God, and faith. In this letter, and the ones that follow, we will start an extensive look at what happens when one is born-again, or saved. What actually transpires in this event? What can we expect now?

Most christians live their lives ignorant of their great inheritance and identity in Christ. This accounts for the defeat of many. For many, Christianity is the daily grind of trying to be good, trying to read The Bible, trying to pray, and trying to go to church and participate the “right ” number of times each week. Is this all that Jesus Christ died to provide?

We will start this investigation of being born-again with a consideration of our make-up as a human being. The Holy Scriptures teach us that we are three-part beings.

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV

The above passage shows us that human beings consist of spirit, soul, and body. Genesis 2:7 explains how this came about.

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7 NKJV

The word “being” is often translated as soul. Thus, we see that God took clay, our body, and breathed His spirit into us, giving us our spirit. The union of this spirit and body, produced a soul.

A great analogy, of this three-part make-up, is the light bulb. The glass, metal, and filament portion, represent our body. The electricity, flowing out of the wires into the bulb, picture the spirit of man. The light, the reaction between the electricity and filament, demonstrate the soul.

It is imperative we understand the difference between these three portions, especially the difference between soul and spirit. Your soul is your personality, emotions and will. Your spirit is your actual life-force. The spirit is the eternal portion of you and the portion that communes with The Father.

In our next letter, we will examine The Fall and its effect on our spirit, soul, and body.

but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 NKJV

your brother in Christ

P.S. Jesus Christ is coming soon
